MK School
The Missionary Kid School House is here to serve missionary families. Set up in a one-room schoolhouse, the MK schoolhouse is open from 8:00 am- 3:00 pm every weekday during the CINCEL trimesters. Here, the students work on their schoolwork, attend Spanish classes, enjoy free time/creative time, and develop relationships with fellow missionary kids. Students are taught using homeschool curriculum (of the family’s choice) by current AGWM missionaries and attend spanish classes taught by our qualified staff here at CINCEL; these spanish classes are customized to each child’s level of spanish knowledge and age group.
Currículum:
For the students who attend, each family chooses a homeschool curriculum that best suits their children. Parents pay for the curriculum and are asked to bring all books, materials and tools their child might need for their time of education at CINCEL. Our staff has experience working with various combinations of both online and book curriculum, and any new curriculum will be thoroughly learned and eagerly taught.
Heart and Mission:
Our heart in the MK Schoolhouse is to provide a safe, welcoming, fun and educational atmosphere for kids to learn. We desire to meet kids in both their schoolwork and their emotional health; CINCEL is often an MK’s first experience on the field and we desire to make it a sweet season! Transition hits different kiddos in different ways, but we desire to cultivate safe and caring friendships with individual children, so that we might help them through this transition in every way possible. Likewise, our heart is to serve missionary parents/the whole family unit. Learning Spanish is hard, and it takes a lot of effort and time! By providing a safe atmosphere for your child, we desire to give you the time and space you need to attend Spanish classes and finish homework.

Within our MK school program, we are dedicated to providing our young adventurers with exceptional Spanish education. The students have weekly Spanish sessions led by the talented teacher Carolina. We believe that proficiency in Spanish not only enriches our children’s life experiences but also opens up a world of intercultural possibilities and future opportunities.

What is the daily schedule?
The daily schedule differs each trimester according to the needs of individual students. The schoolhouse is open from 8:00 am – 3:00 pm with a lunch break from 12:15 pm – 1:15 pm (students are sent home for lunch). The day always begins with a devotional time and activity (something to do with creativity, language relationship building, etc…something to wake up sleepy minds). We have school work time, free time (usually the students have a few options to choose from like: art, legos, free, read, four square, etc.), Spanish classes (the students have 45 minutes of a formal Spanish class a day, along with a 45 minute Spanish activity), recess (we have a local park next to CINCEL and we also have a trampoline), and snack (snacks are provided by parents). The remaining details of the schedule will be decided at the beginning of the trimester depending on the various needs of the students and teachers.
How many children will be at the schoolhouse?
This is dependent on which families have final approval to come to CINCEL before the trimester. Some trimesters we have no families with children attending, and some trimesters we have multiple! Do I lesson plan for my child’s day, or do the teachers?
Ideally, the MK Schoolhouse teacher will take over the entirety of your child’s school day- lesson planning included!
My child has a mix of book and online curriculum. It feels complex- what should I do?
We are aware that it is not very often that a family follows their homeschool curriculum exactly; this is the beauty of homeschooling- you
get to tweak it and customize it to your child and their learning style! Our teachers have experience working with both online, book based and mixed curriculum. At the commencement of the semester, we will hold parent-teacher conferences to sit down and learn how you use your curriculum to teach, and how your child best learns.
What if my child has special instructions for learning?
We know each kiddo learns in different means and manners; all of us carry different weaknesses and strengths when it comes to our academic journeys. If your child has special instructions with their learning style or curriculum, communicate with us! We want to partner with you and support your child’s education in the way that works best for them.
